This old fashioned pear galette with pecan and thyme is made from scratch and a great alternative to pie. A delicious fall recipe. This juicy, pear dessert marries together the sweet buttery pear to the foresty flavor of pecan and thyme. These flavors compliment each other and are wrapped in a flaky, scrumptious dough. Top with a fresh pear slice and some whipped cream and you have a treat to impress your guests.
Ingredients:
Rolled pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
3-4 barlett pears
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup chopped pecans
1 tablespoon butter melted
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 lemon juiced
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cardimum
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg beaten (for eggwash)
1 tablespoon of granulated or decorative sugar
*whipped or ice cream upon serving
Instructions for making Pear Galette:
Preheat oven to 350
Place parchment paper on baking sheet.
Prepare Pear Pecan and Thyme Filling:
Wash and slice pears and place in large mixing bowl. Add brown sugar and chopped pecans to the pears. Mix in remaining ingredients. Be sure all the pears are coated.
Putting the Galette together:
First, Roll out dough (whether store bought or homemade) to about a 10 inch circle.
Be sure to flour your work surface before rolling out dough.
Transfer dough to baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Gently place pear filling onto the middle of the rolled dough, leaving about an inch around the perimeter.
Slowly begin folding the dough inward about an inch. Gradually make your way around in a circular direction, overlapping each section just a little to create somewhat of a “corner”.
Brush top of dough with eggwash and sprinkle the sugar on top.
Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool on rack before slicing.
Serve with fresh whipped cream, ice cream or both. Top with fresh pear slice.
