How can I use Forsythia Honey Syrup
You can use this syrup in so many ways! The options are really limitless. You could drizzle it over a yogurt parfait, add to tea, or pour over pancakes. In addition, you could add to oatmeal or even cocktails.
Recipe for Forsythia Honey Syrup
First off, I chose to use honey in my recipe, because I like to avoid processed, unhealthy sugars. For example, I try not to use white processed sugar.
Ingredients
1 cup of forsythia flowers
1 1/2 cups of filtered water
1 cup of local raw honey
zest of one orange
Instructions
First, gather your flowers. Naturally, you’ll want to be sure to pick from a bush that you know hasn’t been sprayed with pesticides or other toxins.
After you have gathered your flowers, then place them in a strainer and rinse with lukewarm water.
A strainer like this one is perfect! This is the one I have.
Place your clean flowers in a clean mason jar and add orange zest.
Next, boil 1 1/2 cups of filtered water and pour over your flowers and orange zest and cover.
Following the last step, steep the flowers overnight in the refrigerator or until room temperature.
Once the steeped flowers are cool enough then strain through fine mesh strainer and cheesecloth. Be sure to squeeze the cheesecloth well to get all the benefits from the flower into the forsythia “tea”.
Meanwhile, melt honey in microwave.
Finally, after honey has melted, pour into forsythia “tea” and mix. Pour mixture into jar or container of choice.
Store in fridge for up to 4 weeks.
